Stained Glass Repair

Repair, re-leading and restoration of antique and modern art glass since 1978

Repair is half of what we do

Much of our work involves the repair of existing art glass windows, both antique and recent. Work ranges from the minor repair of a single broken pane up to the removal, total dismantling and re-leading of large antique windows. We do our best to match any broken glass as closely as possible, and because St. Louis is full of century-old leaded glass, we have seen just about every pattern, lead profile and glass type the city has to offer.

Bring smaller panels, lamps and cabinet doors directly to the shop at 745 Marshall Ave. For windows that are still installed, call or send photos and we will advise whether the repair can be done in place or whether the panel should come out.

What we repair

  • Cracked or broken panes

A single broken piece can usually be replaced without removing the whole window. We cut a matching glass, re-lead the opening and re-cement the joint so the panel stays weather-tight.

  • Sagging, bowing and loose lead

Old lead came stretches and the cement fails, so windows bow and rattle. We remove the panel, dismantle it completely, re-lead it with new came, re-cement and reinstall it flat and solid.

  • Antique glass matching

Many of the glasses used a century ago are still made today. We keep a large inventory of antique, opalescent, cathedral and textured glass and special order anything we do not have to match color and texture.

  • Church and institutional windows

Large religious windows, protective covering issues and painted figure repair. We have worked in St. Louis sanctuaries since 1978 and can phase work around services.

  • Doors, sidelights and transoms

Entryway panels take the most abuse. We repair leaded, beveled and textured glass in doors and sidelights and can re-set panels in new door slabs.

  • Lamps and cabinet panels

Stained glass lamp shades, china cabinet doors and leaded bookcase panels are repaired in the shop, usually with a quick turnaround.

Repair Questions

How much does stained glass repair cost in St. Louis?
A single pane replacement is the least expensive repair. Full re-leading is priced by the square foot and depends on the complexity of the pattern and the glass needed to match. Bring the panel to our Webster Groves shop or send photos for an estimate.
Can you repair a window without removing it?
Often, yes. One or two broken pieces can usually be replaced in place. Bowed or sagging windows need to come out to be re-leaded properly, and we handle the removal and reinstallation.
Will the repaired glass match the original?
We match color and texture as closely as possible from our inventory of antique and reproduction glasses. Many original manufacturers' glasses are still produced, and we special order when needed.
Do you repair the wood frame too?
If the woodwork needs repair we work closely with Window Restoration Co. and can have the required work done at cost.
